For VET students, the USI gives you access to an online record of your nationally recognised training in the form of a VET transcript.
This can be used when:
A USI, or Unique Student Identifier, is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your vocational education and training (VET) undertaken in Australia.
A USI is your lifelong education number - you only need to create it once.
If you're at university, TAFE or doing other nationally recognised training, you need a USI.
Without one, you can't get Commonwealth financial assistance or your qualification or statement of attainment.
The most common reason why we can't validate your USI is because some of the information doesn't match.
Usually, this is related to the name that is registered for your USI and the name you have entered in our system.
For example, you have used your full name or your maiden name to register for a USI, but you have given us a shortened name or a married name.
E.g. You used 'Christopher' to register for a USI, but used 'Chris' to enrol with AWFA. Or you have changed your name since you first registered for a USI, such as your maiden name to your married name.
Double check all of the information related to your USI and the information you have provided to us, and correct anything that is different.

If you aren't sure that you have a USI, or you can't remember it, you can easily look it up. If you have undertaken any registered training since 2015, you may already have a USI. If you haven't completed any formal training or study since then, you may not have one.
Note: All details entered must be the same details as recorded on the USI account.
